Hinduvata
  • Vinaya Domvar Savarkar (1883-1966) was an author and philosipher who’s writings were very influential in the formation of modern militant Hinduism. He was the president of the H.M.S from 1937 to 1942, and wrote the most influential work of the new radicalism, Hinduvata. In this text, Savarkar coined the term Hinduvata, or “hindu-ness” as separate from Hinduism. He interprets Hinduism only in a religious sense. Hinduvata includes many other social and ethnic attributes that he sees as basic elements of the Hindu people. Savarka believed that all Hindu peoples were in fact one nation. He also believed someone was only a true Hindu if they regarded India as both fatherland and holy land. In other words, they had to be of Indian ancestry and of the Hindu faith.
